At Acorn to Oak, we assist adults who are concerned about their cognitive processes for various reasons. Some of our clients have noticed a decline in their work performance, while others have sustained an injury that has them doubting their cognitive abilities. We work with middle-aged and older adults who are worried about dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. For some, these worries are debilitating. We’re here to help.

Our Assessments

Our team specializes in the assessment of cognitive functioning. For seniors and other adults who are concerned about cognitive decline, we offer a testing package designed to establish a baseline performance. The assessment identifies strengths and weaknesses within specific cognitive processes, such as memory, intelligence, and executive functions. Establishing a baseline of performance often provides the client with comfort and reassurance that they are “normal.” It also gives the client a reference to compare future performance levels and provide confidence that if their memory is compromised, it will be identified and monitored. We can then provide tailored cognitive skills training to help with memory and other cognitive performance.

For our clients who have suffered from accidents or health events, such as a stroke, we provide a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation that assesses all areas of cognitive processing in order to identify and quantify cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This evaluation covers:

  • Language development
  • Social pragmatic communication, meaning the ability to put thoughts and ideas into words
  • Attention
  • Learning and memory
  • Auditory processing
  • Visual processing
  • Eye-to-hand coordination, fine motor control, and motor dexterity
  • Executive function, which incorporates logic, decision-making, problem-solving, and self-control of the body, emotions, and cognitive processes

No matter your concern with cognitive performance, our team at Acorn to Oak can provide the right assessments to identify the core issues at play. Taking it a step further, we then design strategies and tools to address the needs of each individual client.

Skills Training

Our goal is to provide a complete solution to adults experiencing cognitive difficulties. Most neuropsychologists can deliver similar assessment and diagnostic services, but few of them offer the skills training that we offer. After assessing and diagnosing clients, we can provide one-of-a-kind training to help them mitigate their symptoms.

Skills training at Acorn to Oak is a behavior modification program where we work on developing the skills that are most at risk or that have been identified as being underdeveloped in our client. Depending on what your assessment results show, we will develop an individual, unique training program that is designed to meet your unique needs.
